Check Your Toes!!!

Do you get pedicures on a regular basis? Do you keep polish on your toes at all times? Do you check out your nails while you are having a pedicure? Well...I am ashamed to admit that I get pedicures on an irregular basis and will repaint over polish on my toes at times. It was last week, when I took my polish off myself when I was shocked to see my big toe nail was a bit raised and didn't look right and it was dark in color. Yikes!!! So then I took the polish off the other foot and my other big toe nail was slightly discolored but also lifting. I was SHOCKED and EMBARASSED!!! I'm a clean person...how can this be??? I have a fungus under my toe nails. WHAT ARE THE ODDS OF SOMEONE HAVING A FUNGUS UNDER BOTH BIG TOE NAILS AT THE SAME TIME??? I ASK YOU???

I called a podiatrist and went to the appointment thinking that I was going to be given a pill or a topical treatment NOT told that the best option was to remove NOT ONE but BOTH nails!!! Yes....I walked out of the office after insurance approval without both my big toe nails and two very special velcro shoes. :)

The photo below is a photo of my toes when I got home! I won't show you what they look like now...it's NOT pretty!! And my nails WILL grow back in about 4-6 months!!

I'm sharing this with all of you so you don't have the same surprise I had last week. CHECK your fingers and your toes girls!!! AND let your nails breath in the winter or every now and then.

P.S. The big issue I face right now is trying to find a pair of shoes to wear to go out of the house. I was able to wear a pair of sandals yesterday and a pair of tennis shoes today for a short time as it's too cool to wear sandals out. I am thankful for the little things....being able to wear a pair of shoes with little pain!!

I get a pedicure once a month. I always get a french pedicure so I can pretty much see my nails. My husband got a fungus in his and he took that pill that the podiatrist gave him. It worked!!

I have a friend who lost her toenail....different reason than you. Hers is a permanent loss. She paints the area where the nail would be and unless you look real close, you can't tell. Hey, whatever works!

Hope your toes heal nicely. Sorry for what you have had to go through!

I hardly ever get a pedicure.....but I heard that you get fungus the most from the salons. I once lost a toenail on a big toe and know how painful it can be! Be very careful until your nails grow back!

I better go take my polish off now!

OK My Dear - TMI! You are giving me the heebe geebees!
Once I stopped having acrylic nails, I started getting pedicures every 4 weeks. I now have pretty toes and bit off fingernails. HA!

OH MY WORD Connie! I too had a my big toe nail removed (Feb. 5th) as my second foot procedure!! Mine was for the same reason as yours..PLUS...years of running and my big toe...slammin' against the top of my shoe.

I hope your recovery is going well? The morning after my procedure, I dropped Annabelle's (our dog) 5 pound GLASS jar of dog food RIGHT ON TOP OF THAT TOE...and I almost passed out!!! My foot was then swollen, and I couldn't even bend my toes..for a good week and a half.

I too was in that lovely velcro shoe...I had to wear it for 2 weeks! I'm finally back into a regular shoe, although, I continue to keep a band-aid covering my nail bed so I don't get any sock fuzzies in there.

I'll be praying for you friend....cause I KNOW exactly what you are going through.

Now...for the nail to grow back out...humm. :-)

I have been hearing this same story quite often the last few weeks. It seems odd to me that I did not hear of it before then. I am hurting for you. I can't imagine how painful that must have been and probably still is.

Do hope your feet feel better soon. Thanks for the heads up in this area.

YIKES. I love to have color on my toes, but during the winter I don't use it because of letting my nails breath. Sound like an extreme measure for nail fungus,,,but then I am not the doctor. Hope you heal nicely.

Oh my lands girl!!! I do leave my toes naked in the winter. It takes that long to grow out and get rid of all the dry nails. I do get pedicures in the summer though and will need to be more careful!
Sorry about your toes! Hope they heal quicker than 4-6 months.

I get pedicures about once a month with a polish change about every two weeks year round since we live in an area where (usually) I can wear sandals or flip flops almost every day. Not this year! Crazy winter for us.

Sorry about your poor toes. Yikes, that sounds so painful.

Hugs!
Kat
