My trip to Cracker Barrel

I bought a few things for breakfast on Father's Day.
I couldn't resist buying a little something for the grandchildren.  Aren't these cute for 4th of July???  Don't tell Bella and Dylan I bought them something.  :)

I've heard you all talk about Cracker Barrel and had never been to one.  So imagine my surprise when I found one next to our hotel last weekend in Phoenix.  Danielle, Mason, hubby and I had the most wonderful breakfast AND we ate all of it!  Their pancakes are yummy, their homemade biscuits melt in your mouth, the chicken fried steak was really good, eggs, sausage and bacon were all good.  (We all ordered different breakfasts so we could taste everything!) AND I tasted grits for the first time!!!  They were well...what are you supposed to put in them? They were a little bland.  I tried syrup and that made them better because I like my food sweet but how do you eat your grits??

sugar and butter for me, or syrup and butter,...i eat mine with a spoon
my hubby eats them with butter, salt and pepper...he likes his to drier and eats his with a fork
I like mine (more like cream of wheat)

they're great mixed with cheese and pan fried the day after...or you can even take leftovers and pour them in a pan and quick bake them with almost anything in them then slice them...
my favorite is to make them in a crock post with cheddar cheese, garlic and shrimp ...YUMMY!!

I love Cracker Barrel! I am glad you got to eat there. I usually don't get the grits so I don't know what I would put on them. I usually get pancakes or eggs and toast.

Cracker Barrel...so many fun memories of our visits to that place. We all have our favorite menu items, and grits would not be on that list. Probably since we did not grow up eating them. We like the small wooden games on the tables, the checker boards in front of the fireplace, the gift shop and so many of the foods that they serve. I like the adorable red, white and blue outfits. They will look so cute on your grandchildren.

This is so funny to me!!! NO, grits do not get anything sweet put on them. (You put sweet on Oatmeal.) Just put lots of butter and salt and pepper, and if you like, mix in some grated cheese. True be told though, I am a southern girl born and raised and we have MUCH better food than grits. They are not one of my favorites. We have a Cracker Barrel less than five minutes from my home, but we don't eat there often. I forget about it and it's usually crowded because they always put them close to a highway to attract lots of travelers. They do have pretty good food though and great gifts. They allow smoking in the smoking section and it is not very closed off from the rest of the restaurant, so it bothers me. They have real good hashbrown casserole and pancakes!!! Enjoyed reading your post.

Cracker Barrel gift shop was the first job that my daughter got when she was 16. She worked there for 3 years. She earned her 4 stars...which was a plus for me because she received a 35% discount for all purchases made in the gift shop & restaurant. So you can imagine that I have a lot of Cracker Barrel items in my home. As for grits...that's a southern staple. I've never eaten any, but my mom's side of the family is just crazy about them. I don't know what all they eat on them, but I know butter is always involved.

I live in NW suburban Chicago and our local Cracker Barrel closed down. I miss it!

I do not follow the traditional southern way of eating grits with red gravy. I treat them like Cream of Wheat and put cinnamon and sugar on them with a little hot milk if it's available. Yum!

You can probably find me at Cracker Barrel at least 4 out of 5 lunches a week. One thing you all might not know is you can order off the kids of all ages menu and get your drink free! Love the side salad with grilled chicken, great size for lunch!

Sorry I'm from the north and never have found grits likeable, just don't have the taste for it!

I love Cracker Barrel. Their vegetable soup and cornbread muffins is one of my favorites.

Okay, let this southern girl tell you about grits. They must be hot, then add salt and pepper and butter. Get the sweet from the jam or jelly on your biscuit that you can eat along with the grits. You can add cheese to your grits too for a different flavor.

Hugs!
Kat

(oh btw...darling clothes)

LOL...can't believe you have never had grits. But I'm a southern gal so we love grits...I eat mine with butter and salt. Adding cheese is really good too. Love the 4th of July outfits!

You are so funny. I went to CrackerBarrelfor the first time last summer when we were in Sedona. There was one in a town close-by. I got to try a little of everything and yes it was good.
HOW TO EAT GRITS! Boy, are we from California or what? But I wish someone would please let the rest of us in on their secret. Because I was not too impressed. I tried making a recipe of Paula Deens once - (Can you just see the inches expanding around your waist when we eat something she makes?) LOL! In reading all the comments posted, sound like s & p and cheese might just be the way to go.
Glad you had a safe trip. We spent this past weekend out in Palm Springs in the Coach. Gorgeous weather and the park was EMPTY!
And did some thrifting and shopping to boot!
Hugs. Talk to you later!

Cracker Barrel, yum!!! Glad you enjoyed it. Gosh it's been so long since I last had grits. Can't even remember what we put on them. It seems like butter. They are different. ;)
Oh and their dinners are soooo good. I had the pot roast, oh my gosh, it melted in my mouth and so much flavor.
